How does YouTube Pay their Creators?

Before we dive in, let’s talk about how exactly YouTube pays their creators. YouTube pays their creators through monetization. If you’ve ever watched a YouTube Video, you know that YouTube usually plays an ad before you can watch a video. This is how YouTube monetizes a channel. The requirements to join YouTube’s Monetization program, and get paid by YouTube for your content are:

– Must have a minimum of 1,000 subscribers

– Have 4,000 total channel views OR Have 10,00 total YouTube Shorts Views in 90 days.

Your goal is to grow as many subscribers as possible on your YouTube channels. The more subscribers you have, the more you can get paid. Google pays you about $0.06-$0.08 for every viewer that watches your videos, once you reach the requirements for their monetization program. With that, let’s learn how to make a living with the power of YouTube!

1: Decide what content you’d like to create

Determine the topic for your channel. It could be anything you’re eager about, such as gaming, cooking, technology, fashion, or educational content. Choose something you enjoy and can consistently create content around. If you are concerned about having to film your face on the video, don’t worry! There are many ways to create videos without using your face, such as origami, art, gaming, etc. However, it’s important to note that YouTube will not pay you for every type of content.

Some examples of content that YouTube will not pay your for include:

– Reused Content (Such as videos with Free to use or Creative Commons Licensed)

– Collections of Songs from Different Artists (even if you have their permission)

– Content already uploaded by other creators

– Clips from your favorite TV shows

– Promotion of other people’s content (even if you have their permission)

Some examples of Content that YouTube will pay you for through monetization:

-Reaction Videos to other YouTube Creators, Movie reviews, Album Reviews, etc.

-Your commentary on a sports event, or related events

-Your own content (gaming, cooking, how to, vlogs, etc.)

It’s best to be creative and have fun while doing it!

2: Research and plan

Look at existing YouTube channels within your chosen topic to understand what works well and what you can bring that is unique.

Determine the purpose of your channel, whether it will be a hobby or a monetized business.

Running a channel as a hobby may not gain as much income as treating it like a business. To monetize your channel as a business, implement strategies like advertising, sponsorships, merchandise sales, and other revenue streams. This requires commitment, consistent content creation, and strategic marketing to attract a larger audience and generate income.

Treating your channel as a hobby focuses on passion, creativity, and connecting with a smaller community. While some income is possible, it may not reach the income level of a full-fledged business.

3: Create your YouTube channel

You can create a YouTube Channel using your Google account.

After Signing into YouTube on a computer or Laptop, click the menu button (top right corner) and choose the option that says, “Create a channel.” Choose a channel name that reflects the content you plan to make.

After creating your channel, it’s time to design its appearance. You’ll need to create a visually appealing channel banner, logo, and watermark that aligns with your brand and content. You can sue sites like Canva, or you could hire an expert graphic designer for help. Customizing these elements will help give your channel a unique and professional look.

4: Equip yourself with the necessary gear

You don’t need expensive equipment to start. A smartphone with a decent camera and microphone is good enough for beginners. As you progress, you can consider investing in better equipment. Here are some of the products we recommend:

Best DLSR Camera for Live Streaming & Beyond: Canon EOS Rebel T7

Best Microphone for Podcasts or YouTube Videos: Maono USB Microphone

5: Create quality content

Start creating and uploading videos to your channel. Make sure your content is engaging, informative, or entertaining to attract and retain viewers. Pay attention to video and audio quality, as well as editing. Editing a YouTube video can be a touch job. If you’d rather hire an expert, feel free to reach out to us. As we mentioned before, take a look at other Youtubers in your niche and how they create engaging content. What did you like most about their videos? You can add your own person touches to make your content just as loveable! Remember, don’t copy off of other Creators, as it won’t be original, and decreases your building your audience quickly.

6: SEO your videos

Search Engine Optimizing your videos is crucial to reaching people on YouTube. Doing things such as a great title (please don’t indulge in clickbait) and creating a great thumbnail are ways to optimizing your video for the best reach. Using relevant keywords in your video title and description also improve your visibility in search results. You can use tools like SEM Rush to find High Ranking keywords.

7: Consistency is key

Aim to upload content regularly and maintain a consistent schedule. This helps build an audience and keeps viewers engaged. YouTube prioritizes videos from creators who consistently produce content. Keep in mind, your upload schedule doesn’t have to be daily, it could weekly, monthly, or twice a month.

8: Engage with your audience

Your viewers appreciate and enjoy seeing you actively engage with them. Respond to comments, interact with your viewers, and consider creating a community around your channel. Building a loyal and engaged audience can greatly benefit your channel’s growth.

9: Promote your channel

It’s time to share your channel with the world! Sharing your videos on social media platforms, collaborations with other YouTubers in your niche, and engage with online groups related to your content. Building an online presence beyond YouTube can help attract new viewers. You don’t need to directly create content for other social media platforms. You can use the same content you publish on your YouTube Channel. For example, you can create small snippets from your videos, and publish them to platforms like Facebook / Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Pinterest, Be Real, and more! It’s best to publish content on all your platforms at least twice a day. You can use free scheduler tools, such as Later.com, to publish posts automatically, at your desired time, to all your platforms.

10: Learn and adapt

Pay attention to your analytics and insights to understand what type of content performs well and resonates with your audience. Continuously improve your skills, experiment with new ideas, and adapt your content strategy based on viewer advice.

Once you reach your goal of 1,000 subscribers, and 4,000 watch hours, YouTube will invite you to join their monetization program. You will fill out an application to apply, and Google with respond in about 30 days. Once approved, you’ll be on your way to financial success and freedom! Happy growing, and good luck!
